About the Department of Library & Information Science

Welcome to Department of Library & Information Science

The department was established in the year 2023 under the guidance of Prof. Narsi Ram Bishnoi, Vice-Chancellor, Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar, led by Dr. Vinod Kumar, University Librarian as its founder Chairperson. The establishment of this department filled the gap in producing the skilled Library Professionals in this region. In the age of Information and Communication technology and its advanced versions i.e. ChatGPT and AI, put forth so many challenges in front of the libraries, therefore skilled professionals are capable enough to cope with these tools and accelerate the library services as per the demand of the modern students. It won’t be an exaggeration to say that during Covid-19 unprecedent challenge, when complete lockdown was declared by the government, the skilled library professionals played a wonderful role in making a bridge between classroom, teacher and library. Therefore, the prime objective of the department is to create trained Library & Information Professionals capable to evaluate the information sources and services to meet the challenges being faced by the Library & Information Centres. The programme is based on National Education Policy- 2020. It is two years integrated and who will earn one-year credentials, shall be eligible for getting the degree of Bachelor of Library and Information Science. Moreover, realizing the crucial role of emerging technology in conducting the high-level R&D, the department is on forefront since its inception.
